Fossil-only carbon intensity
Carbon intensity of fossil generation sources only, in gCO2eq/kWh.
Fossil-only carbon intensity represents the greenhouse gas emissions per unit of electricity generated from sources that consume fossil fuels, excluding nuclear and renewables. It can be calculated for each time interval and geographical entity by combining the fossil-only electricity mix with technology-specific emission factors.
The carbon intensity computed from fossil sources only can be used as a proxy for the carbon intensity of the residual mix.
Calculation basis
By default, it is computed on the flow-traced electricity mix and thus represents the carbon intensity of electricity available on the grid (including imports and exports). It can also be computed based on the domestic generation mix, in which case it represents the carbon intensity of electricity locally generated on the grid.
